STINGERS CLAIM POINTS-PRODUCING FINISH AT CHICAGO
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Stinger GC shot a final-round counting score of 3 under to finish eighth at LIV Golf Chicago, claiming the last point-producing result on the team leaderboard.
The Stingers leave Chicago fourth in the season-long standings and will seek to secure a top-four finish at next month’s regular-season finale at LIV Golf Jeddah.
The top four in points after the regular season receive a first-round bye for the Team Championship in Miami, scheduled for the week after Jeddah.
Charl Schwartzel led the way for the Stingers in the final round, shooting a 2-under 69. He finished the week at 6 under, leaving him in a six-way tie for 18th on the individual leaderboard.
Captain Louis Oosthuizen and teammate Dean Burmester also finished at 6 under.
Schwartzel claimed 20th on the points leaderboard, while Oosthuizen finished 22nd and Burmester 23rd after the tiebreakers.
The 20th place points finish was Schwartzel’s second-best result of the season, topped only by his ninth in Adelaide.
Branden Grace finished at 3 under for the week and in 30th place on the individual leaderboard. He is now sixth in the season-long points race and will seek a spot in the bonus-paying top three at Jeddah.
Last year, Grace claimed second place in the season-long standings after the tiebreakers.
